Labradorite is known as the stone of magic. This stone may clear away obstacles, protect, bring balance and clarity. It is used to recall dreams and past lives. Crystal healers use it to address eye problems and to enhance digestion and metabolism. Strongly associated with the throat Chakra.

Ancient beliefs of the Inuit communities of Northern America believe the colours in Labradorite  were captured from the Aurora Borealis as it fell from the sky.

Labradorite can display an iridescent optical effect (Schiller Effect) known as Labradorescence, a  peculiar reflection of the light from submicroscopical planes orientated in one direction (rarely in two directions). Varieties of Labradorite showing a high degree of labradorescence is called Spectrolite.
